Candidates must be willing to teach a variety of courses in all years of the program, deliver labs, assess student progress, and support students in all aspects of their studies. Collegiality, flexibility, and enthusiasm for the art and science of human movement are desired characteristics.

We are seeking a candidate with expertise in exercise physiology with a focus on adaptations to exercise. An ideal candidate would have experience teaching exercise prescription and strength and conditioning. The ability to teach human physiology and introductory nutrition is also preferred. Membership and certification with a well-recognized exercise physiology/prescription organization(s) is preferred (e.g., Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology). The department has a desire for a faculty member who can promote community engagement for student learning (e.g., undergraduate research, guest speakers, experiential learning).

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

In accordance with the university's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Plan and pursuant to Section 42 of the BC Human Rights code, preference will be given to members of the following designated group(s): Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, racialized persons, persons identifying as 2SLGBTQ+, women. If you wish to qualify for preferential consideration, you are encouraged to self-identify in your cover letter.

Relevant PhD in Kinesiology/Exercise Sciences from an accredited institution is required. ABD will be considered if professional memberships and experience is comparable.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in post-secondary teaching in the areas of exercise prescription, and strength and conditioning are required. Experience teaching nutrition and human physiology are also assets.
  • Evidence of an ability to be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds.
  • Willingness and ability to function effectively in a team-oriented environment while also engaging in post-secondary service.
