Position Overview:

Reporting to the Senior Product Manager - Hardware Platforms (Servers, Switches and Storage), this role is responsible for deeply understanding the needs of the market and owning the translation of market problems to world class product innovations that our customers love. Armed with a deep understanding of unsolved problems in the market you will partner with engineering to define and produce a product that delights our customers. Working within the product management team the role will have a direct impact on the continued success of Avigilon products within the marketplace.

Responsibilities include:
  • Be involved in the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities, to ensure that decisions made are aligned with corporate goals.
  • Acquire a thorough understanding of market requirements for current and future products by conducting market research supported by on-going visits to customers and non-customers for our key verticals and geographic markets
  • Partner with our Engineering team throughout the product’s lifecycle to ensure high quality, on time releases that delight our customers by helping solve their challenges
  • Prioritize the backlog of engineering tasks to ensure that we are delivering the highest value possible to the market in every release
  • Provide engineering with regular feedback during development to ensure the development of a high quality product with an unmatched user experience
  • Work with external third parties to assess partnerships and licensing opportunities, in order to expand the footprint and reach of Avigilon’s products in the market
  • Assess beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples, to validate ongoing product development and reduce go-to-market risk
  • Report on general business indicators, including revenue, product margin, market share, product return rates, and competitors' marketing and sales program activities
  • Assist with vendor management – meetings, planning and product knowledge
  • Overseeing field product requests – features/functionality, integrations
  • Assist in the development of sales tools and collateral

  • Familiarity with modern networking & storage technologies and architectures
  • Experience in local area network design, optimizing for performance and/or load balancing
    • E.g., confident in explaining the rationale for the use of VLANs vs. IP subnets
    • E.g., knowledgeable in the following technologies and their application: VLAN, QoS, PoE, SNMP, network bonding, RADIUS protocol, IPv4 vs IPv6
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork skills and an ability to develop & maintain internal and external relationships
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to learn quickly and independently
  • Computer Science or Engineering degree

Nice to have:
  • Experience in Application Engineering or 3+ years of hardware product management experience – enterprise class servers & storage, network switches, business class workstations
  • Storage technology fundamentals – e.g., DAS, NAS & SAN – design considerations & usage
  • Strong business planning and analytical skills, including market intelligence, metrics, financial analysis and business model development
  • Knowledge of IT marketplace – leading vendors, compute and storage product lines
  • Understanding of supplier relationships – OEM, ODM & reseller
