This regular, full-time (35 hours per week) position is available starting November 7, 2024. Regular hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department's need. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required. The position is located at the New Westminster campus; however, successful candidate must be available for occasional work at the Coquitlam campus. The Role
Under limited supervision, operate high volume duplicators, networked digital printing management system, a computer to plate system and other related equipment used for duplicating, reproducing and binding of printed materials. Operate and maintain print management system and web based user interface. Act as the customer service representative for the Print Shop; receive, process and maintain orders for copy and print services from College users, and perform other related work as assigned. Provides exceptional client-centred service on a consistent basis to all stakeholder groups.
Responsibilities
1. Coordinates and processes printing work requests
a. processes electronic files and hard copy originals for printing;
b. checks electronic files, proofs, and printed materials to ensure that the output meets customer specifications/ requrements;
c. scans hard copy to digital files, creates and updates Coursepack production master files, locates archived files, and modifies for printing;
d. prioritizes schedules jobs and determines completion time.
2. Outputs files via network, operates digital equipment and production duplicators
a. operates and manages digital print management system and web based interface;
b. operates, programs and adjusts high speed networked duplicators and a computer to plate system for offset press;
c. operates binding and collating equipment, paper punches, power drill, power cutter, folders, and other related equipment as required;
d. reviews work requests in order to comply with College Copyright Policies and Procedures as they pertain to print format operations;
e. selects and cuts paper stock, collates, assembles and binds reproduced materials. Inspects finished work for quality;
f. reports equipment and software service needs.
3. Provides technical and administrative support related to printing and digital workflow.
a. estimates time requirements for completion of job assignments and informs the Print Shop Supervisor of any requests that can't be met. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules;
b. archives digital files, maintains network folders and archives;
c. records production, calculates recoverable costs. Maintains print job orders and requisitions;
d. produces usage reports. Develops and maintains Print Shop procedure manuals, technical documentation and print management databases;
e. maintains inventory records of paper stock and supplies to facilitate ordering. Performs stockroom duties as required.
4. Provides varied and complex customer support services.
a. answers telephones, identifies customer needs, guides and assists customers in submitting jobs via network or electronic media, and explains the process of digital output of printed materials;
b. communicates effectively in written and oral form;
c. assists customers in the placement and layout of print jobs. Manipulates text and graphics including cut and paste, pre-press, and finishing operations;
d. demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service;
5. Performs other related duties.
a. attends workshops, seminars, etc. and recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and output quality.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
•Good working knowledge of the English language together with excellent oral and written communication skills.
•Completion of a related diploma from a recognized post-secondary educational institution supplemented by at least two years of print shop experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Working knowledge of operating procedures for high speed duplicators DPM computer to plate system and electronic digital print management system; printing services procedures and terminology; paper stocks, types and weights bindery equipment; uses of paper and inks; layout, imposition techniques and methods of digital plate making;
•Considerable skill in operating a networked computer and peripherals with proficiency in the operation of a variety of duplicating equipment, including offset and high-speed digital printing. Proficiency on Customer Service Testing. Working skill in estimating costs and establishing production schedules; working skill in use of reproduction equipment with a minimum of waste.
•Demonstrated knowledge of software applications including MSOffice, Adobe Suite of products and Print Shop specialized applications.
•Demonstrated ability to take printing requests and relay customer requests to printing terminology; develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, vendors and college users. Must be able to handle multiple tasks effectively and efficiently.
•Demonstrated ability to write reports, correspondence, and other documentation in English language. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret a variety of manuals.
•Good knowledge of a variety of electronic file formats, using desktop publishing, prepress and related software. Experience operating high volume digital network duplicators, organizing job orders and maintaining production records.
•Ability to work standing up for extended periods of time handle noisy work area and odors as well as lift and / or move up to 50lbs (boxes of stock paper).
