The Plumbing and Gas Inspector 1 performs regulatory and inspectional work of a technical nature involving the inspection of new and existing residential, commercial, and industrial plumbing, sewer and gas installations to ensure compliance to municipal standards, codes, by-laws, and applicable Regulations and Acts. This position includes plan review and inspecting plumbing, hydronic heating, gas, sewer, and drainage installations in various stages of completion to ensure compliance with appropriate by-laws, codes, standards and regulations; plan review and inspecting the fire protection water service from the property line to the main valve station within a building for compliance with applicable regulations; approving or rejecting plans and work inspected and enforcing changes or corrections as required; providing technical advice, assistance, interpretation, and information to owners, contractors, engineers, and architects on matters related to the work; preparing reports; assisting with correspondence; writing objection notices; answering counter and telephone enquiries; and maintaining records related to plan review and the work. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include the completion of the Grade 12 and a plumbing trade apprenticeship, plus sound experience as a journeyman plumber and gas fitter in construction of commercial, industrial and residential buildings, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful applicant will possess thorough knowledge of plumbing, gas fitting, hydronic heating, and sewer connection codes and standards and of the related by-laws, and will have the ability to understand and interpret building plans and recognize requirements relating to plumbing, gas, sewer installations and drainage installations. Sound knowledge of related computer applications preferred (ie. Outlook, internet, GIS and permit and inspection tracking etc.). Required licenses and certificates include BC Certificate of Qualification in Plumbing, Class B Gas Fitter Certificate with Electrical Endorsement, Certificate of Competency as a Gas Inspector (Safety Officer) and Cross Connection Control Administrator Certificate. Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia, Class 5, is required. The closing date for this competition has been extended and will remain open until filled. New applications are welcome!
