Job Title:         Plant Manager

Department:    Manufacturing

Reports to:      Vice President, Manufacturing

Key Business Partnerships: Production Staff, Plant Supervisors, Shipping Supervisor, Quality Assurance Supervisor, H&S Coordinator, People & Culture

 

SCOPE

To oversee all departments within plant operations to drive continuous improvement and optimization of all processes. This role leads a team of supervisors and plant support staff accountable for production scheduling, manufacturing, and shipping. A key focus of this role is workforce planning and recruitment, employee training and developing talent.

  • Ensure leadership coordinates the deployment of labour to coincide with production schedules
  • Supports the development and implementation of the department’s annual operating plans
  • Oversee the on boarding and training of new employees to ensure they are set up for success in accordance with our people programs and plans
  • Manage supervisor performance and drive personal accountability by leveraging; training plans, development plans, performance improvement plans, coaching, recognition or corrective action tools and processes
  • Role model leadership and develop relationships with trust, dignity and respect as the foundation

 

 

PRODUCTS

  • Ensure product quality and standards are never compromised
  • Ensure each employee owner understands each products specifications and quality standards guidelines
  • Ensure each employee owner is held accountable for the quality of the product at their respective production stage
  • Ensure no product passes final inspection that does not meet our quality assurance standards

 

 

PROCESS

  • Responsible for ensuring leadership maintains the physical space of the manufacturing environment in safe, clean and orderly fashion
  • Responsible for planning, organizing and directing the work force to ensure that all manufacturing departments and production lines are staffed efficiently
  • Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime
  • Responsible for ensuring lead hands conduct pre-operational inspections to ensure machinery and raw materials are ready and available prior to the commencement of the day’s production start-up
  • Be responsible for production output, product quality and on-time shipping
  • Responsible for upholding our workplace policies and procedures
  • Supports supervisors and lead hands to ensure daily trouble shooting and problem solving of production and scheduling issues
  • Responsible for being up to date with latest production management best practices and concepts
  • Other duties as assigned – anything and everything

QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience / Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Management and/or Business Administration or other post-secondary with a combination of work experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years-experience working in an operational supervisory or managerial role
  • Previous experience in managing and developing direct reports is required

 

Working Knowledge/Proven Skill

  • Experience with systems and reporting
  • Strong knowledge of human resources practices and principles, staffing and succession planning, provincial employment, human rights, health & safety and labour laws,
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to coach, consult, manage and influence change
  • Demonstrated problem solving, sound judgment and business acumen
  • Ability to work effectively with teams in a fast paced, high demand environment
  • Must be able to lift and assist workers in their daily activities
