**Temporary 12 Month Position**
  

Location:  VSB Education Center
Department: Employee Services - Payroll
 Salary: $32.57/hour (+18.6% in lieu of benefits)
Hours of Work: 7 hours per day
Start Date: Immediately

 

In this role, you will: 

  • Be responsible for the timely completion of payroll for an assigned employee group
  • Perform complex calculations for a variety of situations such as new hires, leaves, position changes, and terminations
  • Recognize potential payroll problems; investigate, resolve and report on problems as required
  • Check and balance payroll output for accuracy as required
  • Run payroll to confirm for an assigned employee group in accordance with Federal and Provincial legislation, union contracts and departmental policies and procedures; refer borderline or doubtful cases to a supervisor/manager for decision
  • Supervise work performed by staff in lower pay bands including providing training and ensuring their work is completed accurately and on time
  • Provide information to employees regarding their payroll and balance records as well as information to departmental officers and staff members on methods used in computing pay and answers enquiries from outside sources
  • Prepare and monitor pension and benefit remittances and reporting against payroll, initiate corrective action when needed and/or make appropriate recommendations to management, timely submission of long term disability, plan enrolment and information at termination or retirement
  • Prepare, validate and coordinate the schedule for the Public Employees Benefits Trust extract and import in adherence to the payroll calendar deadlines 
  • Reconcile significant volumes of data requiring complex formulas, VLook up and pivot tables to validate accuracy and completeness of the benefit calculations and deductions compared to vendor invoices.
  • Provide technical and resource support to the Division
  • Perform other work within the job band as assigned

 

 Qualifications: 

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation by the Canadian Payroll Association
  • Minimum five years of experience in payroll and accounting
  • Must be able to pass the following: Microsoft Excel Skills (80%+) & Administrative Payroll/Accounting Assessment

  

Skills/Knowledge: 

  • Strong knowledge of Payroll legislation, CRA and Pension.
  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial laws, Board regulations and union agreements that are applicable to wage and salary administration, benefits and entitlements
  • Able to work independently with little direction and exercise a high level of initiative
  • Able to problem solve complex issues and demonstrate strong communications skills
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced and deadline driven working environment
  • Must have or be willing to obtain supervisory skills training
