Job Description

Join a dynamic, adventure-focused company with operations across Western Canada. Our client is hiring a Payroll Specialist to oversee two complex, multi-jurisdictional payrolls. This role supports both a federally regulated operation and a high-growth subsidiary. You'll work closely with Finance and HR to ensure accurate, compliant payroll processing. Ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced, seasonal environments. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and tech-savviness are key. Based in downtown Vancouver with future hybrid flexibility — and yes, dogs welcome!

Who- the Company:

Our client is a leading, safety-driven organization in the transport and logistics industry, with a strong footprint across Western Canada. Their work spans several exciting verticals, including remote infrastructure support, specialized tourism operations, and emergency response coordination. With a head office based in downtown Vancouver, they also support various operational teams spread across the province — including in coastal and mountainous regions. This position is part of their core Finance & Administration group, supporting the parent company as well as a fast-growing, high-adventure subsidiary.

What- the Role:

Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join their team. Reporting to the Controller, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for running two separate payrolls — including one for a federally regulated operation with multiple unionized and non-unionized employee groups. This role requires high attention to detail and a solid understanding of complex payroll environments, including sector-specific compliance.

Who- the Candidate:

We are seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and reliable payroll professional who has hands-on payroll processing experience. Canadian payroll experience is beneficial, and we are also open to candidates with complex overseas payroll processing experience.

  • This Payroll professional will be responsible for the processing of two payrolls, including a highly complex, federally regulated aviation payroll requiring specialized knowledge and an experienced payroll skill set.
  • Experience processing payroll in a federally regulated environment is beneficial.
  • Full-cycle bi-weekly payrolls for two companies.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures for payroll processing to ensure adequate controls are in place.
  • Benefits administration.
  • Compile, track, and calculate under the Canada Labour Code averaging overtime system.
  • Prepare payroll reports for management and month-end account reconciliations, accruals, and adjustments.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding payroll matters.
  • Prepare and file multi-government reports in accordance with compliance guidelines.
  • Support HR and Finance in other projects, initiatives, and tasks as required.
  • Process year-end balancing and issuance of T4s, and oversee timesheet submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Where:

Our client is headquartered in the heart of downtown Vancouver and is open to a hybrid work model once training has been fully completed.

How Much:

$70,000–$80,000 base with a discretionary bonus, RRSP, and full extended health and dental benefits. Candidates at various levels of experience will be considered, and salary will be commensurate with the quality, depth, and breadth of payroll skills, as well as payroll education and professional development. Please discuss further with SWIM.
