Our client, a global employee-owned engineering firm is looking to add a Payroll and Benefits Administrator to their team.  With over 80 years in the industry, this stable company has experienced great success and is expecting to continue its growth. The company values sustainability and shows this value in the quality driven services they provide.


The Payroll and Benefits Administrator is responsible for managing the payroll & benefits for approximately 140 employees split between BC and Alberta.  The position will report to the Financial Manager & Administration.

The Key accountabilities for this role include:

  • Full cycle semi-monthly payroll
  • Reconcile benefits statements
  • Develop payroll reports when requested by management
  • Prepare T4’s and year end documents
  • Process employee terminations and issue ROE’s
  • Prepare, process and reconcile payroll journals and accounts
  • Communicate payroll and benefits information with employees
  • Monitor and maintain benefit entitlements for various employee groups
  • Communicate with health care professionals regarding benefits
  • Facilitate discussions regarding process improvements
  • Ad-hoc projects (Accounting, HR, Administration, etc.)


This position is best suited for an outgoing, inquisitive & adaptable individual who has a few years of payroll experience and is looking to learn more and grow within the company.

The following would be considered requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in payroll and benefits
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal & Provincial Payroll & Employment legislation
  • Exceptional customer service experience
  • Strong communication & interpersonal skills
  • Strong Excel skills

The following would be considered assets:

  • Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA)
  • Accounting Diploma
  • ADP or Ceridian experience
  • Experience working in the professional services industry

The most important aspects of the Payroll and Benefits Coordinator relate to soft skills, namely interpersonal. The ability to communicate with employees and effectively deal with a variety of situations is essential for this role.


  • $45,000 - $55,000 per annum
  • 3 weeks’ vacation plus flex days
  • Extended Medical, Dental, MSP, Pension
