The Role:

They are seeking a professional and capable Paralegal to join their Policy and Planning Department. The Paralegal will report to the Director of the department, and support the team’s lawyers with researching and analyzing legal issues and developing of policy options. This role also assists the various committees overseen by the department. If you have a keen eye for accuracy, a proactive approach, and superior organizational and time management skills, this may be the role for you.

The ideal candidate has exceptional research, analytical and communication skills. Exceptional written communication skills are a must, as the focus of this role is on research and writing. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and within a team. A strong work ethic and initiative will go far in this environment.

Where is it based?

Downtown Vancouver, BC (very easily transit accessible)

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting policy research pertaining to the development of programs and proposals
  • Researching points of law
  • Preparing reports and presentations to the Board of Directors and various committees
  • Drafting various letters and correspondence
  • Preparing meeting agendas, attending meetings and taking minutes
  • Working and liaising on policy development with other departments
  • Providing research to assist in the drafting of regulations and legislation
  • Assisting in the booking and conducting of hearings and issuing and posting of hearing decisions in the absence of the Hearing Administrator
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director

Must haves:

  • 5 years of experience in a similar role
  • Paralegal certificate or diploma
  • Previous experience handling complex and diverse caseloads with excellent research, writing and analytical skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office as well as case and document management programs such as Summation
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle and effectively prioritize a high volume of work and to work well independently and within a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with a high degree of discretion and tact
