BC Women's Hospital (BCW) has new opportunities for Nurse Practitioners to join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This is an advanced practice nurse role focused on the medical management and care coordination for critically ill neonates in collaboration with attending neonatologists, medical house staff and the entire health care team. What you'll do
What you bring
- Responsible for the diagnosis and comprehensive management of acute and chronic conditions.
- Initiate treatment, including health care management and therapeutic interventions.
- Prescribe medications in accordance with NP regulatory standards.
- Work with the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive support to neonates, including diagnosing conditions, developing treatment plans, and initiating therapy.
- Provide professional guidance to other health professionals in the program.
- Participate autonomously and collaboratively as a member of a large interdisciplinary health team, ensuring the best care of critically ill neonates and support to their families.
What's in it for you
- Current registration as a Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- Eligibility to complete the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) through the BCCNM.
- Minimum (4) years of recent, relevant clinical nursing experience, 2 of which were in a NICU or other critical care area.
- Ability to self-direct, interact, and adapt effectively with other professionals in complex, dynamic situations.
- Skilled in communicating and collaborating with patients and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care, and prognosis.
- Ability to lead a team.
- Ability to critically assess and evaluate health research literature to determine best practices.
Reimbursement for Nurse Practitioners (NPs) who complete the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) is available. Upon successful completion, for NP candidates who have not yet completed the exam; and who are hired into a regular or temporary position with PHSA, OSCE reimbursement will be distributed in the form of a forgivable loan. The loan will be forgiven after one (1) year of continuous employment in a regular or temporary position with PHSA.
