BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre (BCW) is the only facility in British Columbia (BC) devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns and families. It provides a broad range of specialized women's health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds and the Neonatal Program is the hub of the provincial quaternary care system. BC Women's is one of the largest maternity facilities in Canada, with about 7,200 births a year, and is both the major primary and secondary maternity services provider in BC's Lower Mainland region and the cornerstone of the provincial tertiary care system. As an academic health centre, BCW's mandate includes providing strong leadership in research through the BC Women's Research Institute and education in partnership with the University of British Columbia (UBC) as well as professional development of health care professionals in areas related to the health of the populations we serve.

BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) cares for the province's most acutely ill or injured children and youth and pediatric patients with chronic medical disorders, and provides developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC. BCCH offers a wide range of health services and specialized health programs, is a leading acute care teaching facility, and conducts research to advance health and care through the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute, in partnership with the UBC. The pediatric residency program and 16 pediatric subspecialty-training programs are accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The Division of Neonatology, Department of Pediatrics, The University of British Columbia (UBC) together with Children's and Women's Health Centre of British Columbia (C&W), invites applicants for the position of Neonatologist.

Housed in the newly opened Teck Acute Care Centre, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at C&W is one of the largest and busiest in Canada with 70 single family rooms. It is the quaternary referral centre for BC. It is an international leader in Health Care, Education and Research with a strong track record in health policy.

The NICU is supported by a full complement of pediatric subspecialties, including Pediatric Surgery and ECMO. The Division is an international leader in clinical care, education and research with a strong track record in Nutrition, Neonatal follow up, Neonatal Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Neurosciences, ethics, simulation, functional echocardiography, pain and basic science. The Division is committed to continuous quality improvement and the establishment of innovative models of neonatal care to improve patient safety, health outcomes and patient/family experience. The Division has a fully accredited Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada fellowship-training program.

This position is suited to a physician interested in building an academic track record while working in a busy NICU as a clinician. The successful candidate will have qualifications indicating a solid level of clinical experience and scientific training to carry out scholarly and/or research activities under close mentorship.

This position will include a leading academic role in the Neonatal Follow-Up Program. The Neonatal Follow-Up program was established in 1983 to evaluate short and long-term results of perinatal/neonatal intensive care by sequential clinical and neuro-developmental assessments, to ascertain impairment early and promote early intervention to minimize the severity of perinatally acquired disability, promote and carry out research to further knowledge of the long-term effects of perinatal and neonatal management and provide an educational experience in developmental assessment and the long-term effects of perinatal/neonatal intensive care for learners in perinatal/neonatal care training programs, as well as learners from Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, and Psychology.

The Neonatal Follow-Up Program is multidisciplinary and provides comprehensive age appropriate assessments to children across most of British Columbia and the Yukon. It is recognized internationally for its contributions to research and neonatal follow-up leadership.

The successful candidate will be a physician who is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Pediatrics and Neonatology, and be eligible for a specialist's licensure via the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. The successful candidate will have, in addition to neonatal follow-up rotations during neonatal perinatal medicine subspecialty residency, additional training or experience in neonatal follow-up or developmental pediatrics. Research experience, especially within neonatal follow-up, or epidemiology is expected. Certification or training in the Prechtl General Movement Assessment and / or Hammersmith Neonatal and Infant Neurological Examination are desirable.

The successful candidate will be offered a position in the Division of Neonatology at Children's and Women's Health Centre of British Columbia and will be recommended for a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, UBC. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
