Work where you matter. Vancouver Island University is hiring a Motorcycle and Marine Tool Room Attendant & Instructional Assistant for their Motorcycle and Marine Technician program on the Nanaimo Campus.


As the Motorcycle and Marine Tool Room Attendant & Instructional Assistant, you will maintain all aspects of the tool room for the Motorcycle and Marine Technician Program including:

  • Receiving, maintaining and issuing tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Repairing and arranging for repair of tools, equipment and diagnostic equipment.


Under the direction of the instructor, you will:

  • Supervise repairs performed by students.
  • Schedule motorcycle and marine equipment for repairs and monitor repair process.
  • Finalize invoices and accept payment on point of sale system.
  • Determine requirements, ensure availability of parts and meet with suppliers and manufacturers' representatives.
  • Maintain material safety data sheets. Implement and maintain proper safety standards by demonstrating and ensuring students follow safe use of tools and equipment.


Required Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent plus Motorcycle Technician Red Seal certification or Inboard/Outboard Marine Technician certification.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards including WorkSafeBC regulations.
  • Three to five years recent relevant experience.
  • Experience in maintaining tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Familiarity with service manuals and computer-based service information systems.
  • Some bookkeeping and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to successfully resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
