Job Description

Working in a multidisciplinary team that includes fixture designers and NC programmers, the method-cutting tool engineer is responsible for the following tasks in the industrialisation of new projects:

  • Definition of machining process (within budget time):
    • number of setups used to machine a part (and how the part is held)
    • amount of stock left on the part in each setup
    • definition of features to be machined within each setup
    • definition of all cutting tools required to machine the part
    • definition of cutting conditions (feeds, speeds, depths and widths of cut) and machining strategy for each cutter (entry, exit, feed reduction in corners, facing/contouring/trochoidal/plunging/kellering/drilling,…)
    • operation validation (machining plan that includes all of the above, as well as cycle time estimation for each cutter tool path)
  • Definition of needs for probing (part measurement in the machine)
  • Follow-up of machining of the first parts at the machine to create feedback to NC programmers and fixture design to create a stable & failsafe process
  • Quality meetings – analysis of inspection results with QC to improve quality of subsequent parts



Skills / Experience

  • Experience in metal cutting (milling, drilling, boring), preferably in titanium and hardened steels
  • Knowledge of cutting tools (geometry, tool/coating materials, indexable cutters, solid tools) and application areas
  • Basic experience with Catia (measuring models)/Vericut (NC program verification)
  • Good PC knowledge (Excel, Word, PowerPoint,…)
  • Teamplayer
  • Preferably minimum 5 years experience in a similar function
  • Willingness to work flexible hours if needed
  • Eligible for ITARS/Controlled Goods Approval
