We are looking for a Mechanical Technician to join our Cryogenics group in an experienced level role to support technical activities and provide technical guidance for early career personnel.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
General
- Provides expert technical support within Department and across TRIUMF as required
- Applies knowledge/skills to a range of complex projects
- within scope of group/department including coordination of maintenance, break fix, upgrades or projects
- within a TRIUMF cross-boundary project under the broad guidance of scope leader
- Responsible for objectives with potentially year to multi-year time frame which may impact multiple teams
- Responsible for making routine and none-routine decisions related to project and team member roles
- Work can include
- Solving problems of diverse scope requiring advanced technical and analytical skills
- Coordination of complex technical projects under the general oversight of a project leader.
- Authors and Reviews documentation central to group or project objectives
- Leads development of methods and techniques as required by group aims or projects and mentors junior colleagues in the procedures
Specific
- Coordinates complex troubleshooting/support for the on-line Cryogenic systems primarily in ISAC-II and e-Linac but can also support activities in other TRIUMF cryogenic systems.
- Coordinates complex support including hardware/system design for lab focussed R&D within the TRIUMF Cryogenics group
- Provides coordination of procurement, parts preparation and final assembly of complex Work for others projects
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
- Individual contributor role with no requirement for line leadership of others
- Expected to provide guidance, training, and mentorship to other employees within the job area
- Provides work direction to junior technicians and/or operators
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Requires advanced knowledge in area of expertise, including approaches and technical concepts
- Fully qualified, expert technical level with demonstrated experience in technical leadership and proficiency. Regarded as a site expert in a particular domain.
- The position requires:
- the ability to work on problems of diverse scope requiring advanced technical and analytical skills
- the ability to develop methods and techniques to obtain solutions for complex problems
- the ability to makes routine decisions related to project and team member roles
NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER (NEW):
Some work will require access to exclusion areas where there are activated components. The position requires the incumbent to be trained by TRIUMF as a NEW. This is required to access and work in areas that are limited to NEWs, as well as for planning and conducting work in radiation environments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Technical certification and 4+ years of related experience, or equivalent
Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
Salary: $70,380.00 CAD plus our comprehensive employer-paid benefits plan
