You're an analytical problem solver who finds quick and clever ways to overcome difficulties. You are proactive over reactive and work to solve issues before problems arise. Organized, with sharpened interpersonal skills, you work well with "teams and machines", and excel in effective communications, both written and verbal.

As the Mechanical Engineering (Co-op) Student, you will have the unique opportunity to gain practical experience within our mills, and working alongside our team of professional engineers during this 8-month term. This role will enable you to directly apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges within an industrial environment. Collaborating with multiple teams, including those focused on projects, maintenance, asset integrity and operations, will provide you with a well-rounded experience. This role will not only enhance your problem-solving skills but also allow you to understand the intricacies of industrial processes and equipment. Your contributions to various projects and tasks will contribute to your growth as an engineer while networking with experienced professionals can expand your career horizons. This Co-op experience is a valuable chance to learn, develop, and excel in your mechanical engineering journey.

The life of the Mechanical Engineering (Co-op) Student includes:
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators for maintenance and reliability processes
  • Assist the Reliability team by doing inspections to ensure the reliability of all equipment, determine failure root causes and find and recommend corrective actions
  • Develop work scopes for equipment and assets requiring repairs and upgrading/enhancing the preventative maintenance systems for pulp mill site assets.
  • Apply Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) methodology to optimize equipment maintenance plans
  • Assist in managing the asset inspection programs including digitalized field inspections, vibration analysis, and precision maintenance practices such as alignment and thermal growth analysis
  • Support the Reliability team with pressure piping inspections within the RBI (Risk-Based Inspection) program

For this role, you come equipped with:
  • Enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering (Co-op) program or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

For bonus points, you have previous pulp mill or other industrial experience.
