RIMEX is a global company that manufactures and distributes Rims and Wheels for heavy machinery used on mining trucks and other industrial vehicles.  

Our continued growth and development has created a need for a Mechanical Design Technician in our Surrey Location. Reporting to the Product & Process Manager and is responsible for completing product design projects, as well as infield work including visits to clients to support the sales team on technical issues.   

 Responsibilities

  • Communicate with stakeholders on project specifications and procedures
  • Provide engineering technical information to projects as required
  • Direct, review and approve product design and changes
  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for engineering and technical areas
  • Managing the design and maintaining all item specifications and drawings are up to date, ensuring all products affected by a change have been modified
  • Administrative functions including report writing, approval of material purchasing, expenditures, etc
  • Ensure processes and procedures comply with regulations and standards
  • Inspect equipment to identify causes of errors or other problems or defects
  • FEA Analysis
  • Coordinate with external partners on development of products and new designs at an early stage in order to incorporate Rimex products in their designs as well
  • Provide guidance and advise for planning and installation, testing, operation, maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment in China
  • Work with shop to provide guidance on the build of new products
  • Assist QA with root cause analysis
  • Create rework process when a product does not meet specifications
  • Visit client sites for investigation of issues, ie wheel failures
  • Provide technical support to Sales
  • Prepare proposals, reports and findings to clients

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing/warehouse environment
  • 4 – 5 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role
  • Experience with OEM
  • Experience with  the workings of mining equipment

 

Other Skills & Abilities

  • Previous experience with ERP software (Syteline) an asset
  • Proven experience in identifying complex problems and developing and implementing solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology
  • Knowledge of algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics and their applications
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints drawings and models
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal in challenging situations
  • Ability to work independently or in a team
  • Adaptable, flexible and able to work well under pressure
  • Sound judgment and decision making ability
