Overview
Do you thrive at the convergence of research, strategy and collaboration? The Manager, Research & Business Initiatives offers the opportunity to lead and shape how evidence informs organizational decision-making.
In this role, you'll work collaboratively with operational divisions and corporate partners in other organizations to ensure we have access to best practices, research and other business intelligence to underpin evidence-based strategies, initiatives and programs. You will also be responsible for communications with divisional leaders including the Enterprise Leadership Team (ELT), external worker and employer stakeholders, international partners and the research community.
This is a temporary role for 13 months.

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices, based on the operational needs of the position.
In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond Office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.

Salary: $116,186.00 - $141,166.00/annually

What you'll do
- Implement the strategic vision including, optimizing, growing and managing the research grants program, overseeing the corporate grants program and developing and implementing an ongoing process to scan the external environment to gather insights to support development of our strategies and programs
- Collaborate with researchers, national and international networks of regulators and compensation agencies, national and international associations, stakeholders, internal departments and divisions to ensure we has the best evidence to inform corporate strategies and initiatives
- Develop and implement departmental strategic and business plans, taking a broad, organizational view to aligning ELT priorities and measures with divisional strategic initiatives
- Provide ongoing monitoring of departmental performance measures, take appropriate action to modify plans and redirect activities to meet departmental objectives
- Work with the senior divisional leaders to operationalize research and provide assurance to the ELT on outcomes of funded projects
- Engage with ELT on matters related to funded projects, corporate grants and environmental scanning process
- Provide leadership, mentorship, coaching, direction and management to a team of advisors providing client-focused services while ensuring necessary administrative and technical resources and services are available to support staff in performing their duties

- Gather and analyze information, anticipate and, and make appropriate decisions and recommendations.
- Think and act strategically to recognize risks and opportunities, develop options and solutions to influence organizational initiatives.
- Provide expert advice to managers, division head and ELT on value and effectiveness of research.
- Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.
Your background and experience
- A Master's degree in epidemiology, occupational hygiene, public policy, business administration or a related field; training or experience with research methods and knowledge of statistical and epidemiological analysis would be an asset.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience managing people.
- Project management training and/or experience, knowledge translation experience, and stakeholder engagement experience would be an asset .
We'll consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.
