Key job responsibilities
A Software Development Manager in our team leads the group from the front. They will be responsible for mentoring, growing and supporting the team in their short-term and long-term goals. They will be responsible for managing the operational health, goal delivery and team health. They will represent their team in forums, build their 1-year and 3-year vision. Most importantly, they need to focus on team's culture; and ensure that they and their team are enjoying their work.

A day in the life
A day in a life of SDM in our team includes (but is not limited to) working on vision, architecture designs, brainstorming with other engineers and leaders, risk mitigation, mentoring/supporting their team, planning their day-week-month. We have weekly demos, happy hours; bi-weekly retros, priority alignment; and monthly goal tracking; and quarterly team events.

About the team
We started a new team in 2020 with a small number of 6 people, to build user experience for a highly technical concept. Over the last 2 years, our team grew to 17 people (SDM, SDEs, Product Manager, Data Engineer, and Interns), we launched a UX platform, 2 products on that platform, expanded our mandate and we're just getting started.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
  • Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
  • 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
  • 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

  • Experience with developing cloud based software services and an understanding of design for scalability, privacy, performance and reliability
  • Experience in partnering with partner teams, product and program management stakeholders
  • Experience with running a startup or startup like team


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to take a project from requirements gathering and design to actual product launch
  • A track record of excellence in communication with executives and technical as well as non-technical leaders
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal process and maximum productivity
  • Experience with running a startup or startup like team
