Squamish Nation has a great opportunity for an experienced Manager, Recreation & Community Facilities to join our dynamic and progressive First Nations government in North Vancouver on a full-time basis.

Under the direction of the EOO, you'll be responsible for administering, organizing and directing matters pertaining to the Chief Joe Mathias Centre and sports field, including facility rentals and revenue generation, program development and other related recreation services.

Overseeing the creation of policy, procedures and annual work plans for five sub-divisions (facility rental, event crew, elders centre, recreation/sports programming and support), you'll also be responsible for managing full and part-time staff, as well as a one (1) million dollar budget.

This role focuses on two main areas:

  • Facility Rental - efficient, profitable coordination of facility bookings, event support, customer service and building maintenance
  • Recreation Services - develops long term strategies that heighten program quality, increase participation, promote wellness and improve accessibility of recreation programs to all sectors of the Squamish community

On a day-to-day basis, your duties may include (but aren't limited to):

  • Managing a team of 15+
  • Managing programs/services, facility rental and bookings for Chief Joe Mathias Centre and sports field
  • Managing building/ground maintenance and security of all buildings
  • Developing operating guidelines, policy and procedures for each division
  • Managing the annual goal-setting process (work plans)
  • Responsible for continual recreation programming enhancement and ensuring the success of sub-divisions
  • Maintaining working relationships and ensuring that a high level customer service is provided at all times by the Recreation Community Facilities Department
  • Managing/coordinating annual budgets, financial matters and records management
  • Supervising the Health and Safety of Employees and adhering to workplace health & safety policies, safe work practices and procedures
  • Participating as a member of the Recreation & Community Facilities and management teams


The successful candidate will have at least five (5) years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in a relevant field from a recognized post-secondary institution. An acceptable combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Specifically, the ideal candidate will demonstrate previous experience in the following areas:

  • Management or leading a team (ideally 5+ staff)
  • Managing and controlling a budget of comparable size ($1 million+)
  • Establishing objectives and developing work plans
  • Managing and delivering programs
  • Pricing and inventory control
  • Using computers, including MS Office/Office 365
  • Using large-scale computerized database systems (JD Edwards preferred)
  • Working in a First Nations organization (ideally Squamish Nation)
  • Level 2 First Aid (or the willingness to obtain within a set time frame)

Due to the nature of this role, the flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required, as is the ability to travel. As such, a valid BC Driver's License (Class 4 or 5), and a reliable vehicle with current auto insurance is also needed.
