The Responsible Mining and Competitiveness Division (RMCD) manages and facilitates the responsible development of BC's extensive mineral resources. RMCD's main focusses are: ensuring safe and environmentally responsible mining exploration, mine development and end of life closures; providing timely permitting decisions; fostering a positive and supportive work environment for staff; and contributing to the achievement of the province's social, economic and environmental goals.

The Senior Reclamation Inspector is a provincial specialist in mine reclamation and provides leadership and supervision to a team of professional/ technical employees responsible for reviewing proposed and ongoing reclamation programs at mines, ensuring compliance to standards and legislation, developing permit conditions, conducting mine inspections and providing technical support to the mining industry, public and other government agencies.

Job Requirements:
  • University degree (Master's degree may be given preference) in an applied science such as agrology, environmental science, natural resource management, ecology, forestry or a related field of study may be considered.
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration (within six (6) months of employment) with a British Columbia institute as a Professional Agrologist, Geologist or Forester.
  • Seven (7) or more years of cumulative experience with conducting reclamation activities on a mine site, implementing reclamation research projects, developing reclamation plans for major mines, and practical experience with soil salvage and stockpiling, erosion and sediment control, and vegetation management.
  • Experience with issues management, problem solving, and providing expert advice to industry clients, internal staff and other agencies.
  • Experience with supervision, budgetary planning, and monitoring of program-related performance measures and standards.
  • Experience managing and leading a diversity of complex projects simultaneously, following accepted project management techniques.
  • Experience with issues management, negotiation, and strategic problem solving, and providing leadership, expertise, and advice in the implementation of solutions to industry clients, internal staff, other agencies, senior management and executive.
  • Must have a valid BC Class 5 Driver's licence or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Operational experience working on reclamation and environmental management aspects of mine sites in British Columbia.
  • Practical experience reclaiming mine disturbances over non-mine and exploration disturbances.

  • May be required to operate a variety of equipment.
  • May be required to conduct field work which includes travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
