Job Summary
The Team
BC Timber Sales Prince George Business Area's planning team is an established team, who collaborate to plan timber development opportunities over a 5-year cycle within the business area boundaries. The team works closely with government staff, industry, First Nations, and representatives of public resource user groups to develop strategic and tactical plans to meet the BCTS mandate. This dedicated and innovative team is currently advancing partnerships in the area to further enhance planning processes and sound management practices to meet business area goals. The Role
The Planning Forester will establish and foster working relationships with internal and external partners, develop and maintain a long-term operating plan compliant with legislative requirements, prepare and oversee field assessment contracts, and submit final reports and deliverables to supervisors in support of the business area goals. Additionally, they will provide support to other teams to ensure compliance with forestry legislation in BC and promote good stewardship of the forests within the Prince George Business Area. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- A Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or be eligible for registration as an RPF with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) andtwo (2)years of experience in operational field forestry activities.
Operational field forestry activities include the following:

- Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
- Cut-block development
- Forest road engineering
- Silviculture
- Timber tenure development and administration
- Planning integrated resource management
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Directly related planning and integrated resource management experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples.
- Coursework or experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications.
- Experience working with Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) data.
