Job Summary

Are you a geotechnical engineer with a passion for making a significant contribution to individuals and communities within the Province of BC?

If yes, then this could be the job opportunity you have been waiting for!

With BC's huge variety of terrain and environmental conditions, it is one of North America's most challenging environments to build and maintain safe and reliable transportation infrastructure. That's what makes being a Geotechnical Engineer with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure so exciting - you get to do meaningful and challenging work that helps millions of people across the province.

There are currently two opportunities available. One position will be to support provincial geotechnical engineering services within the Northern Region. In this role you will provide senior geotechnical engineering expertise in relation to the construction, maintenance and operation of Ministry infrastructure. You will be required to complete designs and prepare technical documents/reports, review designs by others, as well as making technical decisions, judgements and recommendations as related to Ministry requirements. The position is expected to demonstrate substantial expertise and creativity with consultant liaison, contract management, and project management functions.

The other position will support the province's multi-billion dollar investments in large major infrastructure improvement projects, which are typically located in the lower mainland. You will be called on to provide advisory support on complex design teams with multi-disciplinary engineering teams. Work assignments may vary from providing advice, reviewing design submissions, or even assisting with the development and review of RFQ and RFP documents for large design build contracts. When not working in an advising capacity, you will also work within the provincial geotechnical engineering team to support various other design assignments from road improvements and bridge enhancements to being called upon to assess a recent landslide and determine if the road is safe to re-open, or providing advice on whether a future housing development should be built in a certain area.

One thing you definitely will do is be able to point at a specific road or bridge when you're driving around the province, and know that you played a key part in getting it built.

In addition to doing meaningful work with amazing people, some of the other benefits of joining MoTI include:
  • Working for one of BC's Top Employers of 2024!
