Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies.

The Legislative Library is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused individual for the auxiliary full-time position of Librarian.

Reporting to the Technical Services and Systems Manager, the Librarian supports the information and research needs of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), caucus staff, Assembly staff, statutory offices, provincial government researchers and members of the public. The Librarian designs, develops and delivers library products, collections and services, and provides advice in the areas of reference, technical services and systems.

Specifically, the Legislative Library is seeking a systems Librarian to administrate, maintain, configure, and upgrade library systems and software, including creating and customizing web interfaces and applications. The incumbent will also develop, plan, and supervise digitization initiatives and create, maintain, and preserve digital collections. Experience with library system administration, SQL and digital collection management is an asset. Additional assignments will include working on the reference desk, guiding library systems projects through privacy and security assessments, and other work as assigned.

  • A Masters of Library Science or an equivalent program from an American Library Association-accredited institution, or equivalent international degree.
