Reporting to the Supervisor, Health & Safety Execution, the Emergency Response Lead is responsible for overseeing the mine emergency response plans and procedures including protection systems of mine assets from fire.

The mine site is a 50-minute drive from Kamloops, B.C. which provides all the comforts of city living. It is also close to Merritt, Ashcroft, and Logan Lake, which all exude a small-town community atmosphere.

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Promote Health and Safety leadership amongst employees and contractors, providing mentorship and direction on the application of site procedures and programs
  • Support health and safety programs by providing guidance on confined space entry, self-contained breathing apparatus use, and fall protection plans
  • Maintain emergency response equipment by overseeing inspection and certification programs
  • Train and support HVC Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Mine Rescue Team
  • Develop and implement all training materials related to mine rescue as per the Western Canada Mine Rescue Manual
  • Maintain comprehensive training and equipment certification records for reporting and legal compliance
  • Inspect and maintain fire-fighting and fire suppression equipment as per the regulatory and insurance provider requirements
  • Provide subject matter expertise in areas of risk and emergency response to auditors, inspectors, and regulatory agencies
  • Develop the THVCP Mine Emergency Response Plan (MERP), participate or conduct required annual emergency response plans tabletop drills for site partners and support these work groups throughout project planning and execution as needed

  • Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Health and Safety or Emergency Response would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations pertaining to emergency response, fire protection, and rope rescue
  • First Aid Instructor Certification and background in various levels of training
  • Minimum five years of relevant emergency response or mine rescue experience
  • Strong digital literacy, particularly with the Microsoft Office Suite® package: Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment to meet the needs of key partners
  • Strong trouble shooting, critical thinking, and decision making abilities
