A major employer in Burnaby is seeking an experienced HR professional to play a key leadership role on their Compensation Services team. The Senior Compensation Advisor is responsible for managing the Compensation Services team in the provision of job evaluation services, including job analysis and evaluation, participating in the development of new job evaluation plans, and providing organizational design and job evaluation dispute resolution services.

They are looking for candidates with specialized experience in compensation, job evaluation and supporting dispute resolution processes including arbitration. The successful incumbent will have experience leading and guiding a compensation team on job evaluation and compensation issues, assigning and reviewing work, and coordinating the provision of job evaluation services to multiple stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the provision of job evaluation services and serve as a resource on job evaluation matters, act as point of contact for requests, queries and issues
  • Hire, train, coach and manage staff, including ongoing mentoring and identifying areas for development
  • Assign and oversee the work of Compensation Advisors engaged in the provision of job analysis and evaluation
  • Review and evaluate the work of a wide variety of positions, establish and communicate work standards and processes, participate in recruitment, and provide training and advice
  • Research and prepare statistics, reports and recommendations on matters relating to the job evaluation program
  • Support dispute resolution proceedings and arbitration acting as an expert witness as required, advise on appropriate course of action for arbitrations  
  • Communicate complex concepts to stakeholders and team members regarding job evaluation criteria, collective agreement interpretation, process or policy interpretation
  • Supervise and provide guidance to Compensation staff working to resolve issues related to job evaluation matters
  • Other related duties as needed

What You Bring

  • 7+ years of progressive HR/HR management experience including extensive experience providing job evaluation services and advice
  • Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Human Resources or related discipline
  • CHRP designation is an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and excellent active listening skills
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to work under broad direction and use significant independent judgement to problem solve
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
