The West Vancouver Land Development Department has an exciting opportunity for a Land Development Technician to join our collaborative team that plays a vital role in supporting new developments. Reporting to the Supervisor / Senior Land Development Technician, this position will be responsible for:
  • Reviewing engineering design drawings and building permit plans for conformance to municipal requirements, bylaws, and good engineering practices;
  • Conducting field investigations of design area to assess site conditions;
  • Reviewing and approving sediment and erosion control plans and vegetation management plans;
  • Reviewing and approving traffic management plans
  • Reviewing encroachment permits and consulting with a manager and/or other municipal departments;
  • Coordinating pre-construction meetings detailing the construction, safety and engineering standards, and other required details;
  • Responding to questions and complaints from the public regarding permit applications;
  • Preparing and maintaining reports, plans, drawings, records, correspondence and work orders;
  • Handling enquiries and providing technical information and assistance to staff, the public, contractors, and consulting engineers; and
  • Performing other related work as required.


The successful candidate has graduated from an Institute of Technology diploma program in Civil Engineering and possesses a minimum 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Eligibility for registration as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of B.C is preferred. A valid Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia and a personal vehicle is required.

The preferred candidate will possess: considerable knowledge of municipal engineering design principles and methods, vegetation management, sediment and erosion control, traffic management, inspection procedures, construction methods and materials, and engineering mathematics; considerable knowledge of the land development process within the context of Local Government and Provincial approval processes; the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, staff, development applicants, and civic officials.

The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials. The successful candidate is also required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of hire.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)
Starting Rate of Pay: $40.30 per hour
(This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually.)
