Role Overview

Performs a variety of testing procedures using various electrical equipment and materials in the laboratory or field.

 

Responsibilities

  • Performs and oversees the testing and examination of specific items within the electrical  discipline by recording measurements, operating specialized test instruments, determining parameters, locating failure points and reporting causes of test equipment malfunctions and preparing related reports
  • Reviews project test protocols, inspects products and advises technologists of conformity to established standards, specifications and procedures; advises clients of approved procedures and recommends corrective measures or advises project /laboratory leader of unusual problems
  • Discusses and provides cost and time required for testing to project leaders
  • Provides routine technical assistance in the field on matters as these relate to testing and requirements.
  • Operates a variety of equipment used in the testing set up
  • Provides janitorial and cleanup services for the lab
  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job; this includes the performance of duties across disciplines in a job of the same or lower job group

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required

  • Working knowledge of how to prepare  electrical,  equipment and materials for testing
  • Working knowledge of electrical procedures, testing standards and quality assurance principles
  • Working knowledge of how to calibrate and troubleshoot the related instrumentation
  • Basic analytical skills
  • Knowledge of related testing standards and procedures
  • Written and verbal communications skills
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Basic report writing skills
  • Working knowledge of related safety and WHMIS regulations
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office applications

 

Experience, Training and Education

  • Completion of a Certificate of Technology in Electrical or Power disciplines required for this role in Asset Management
  • Up to two (2) years of related experience working in a lab setting up and performing tests on a variety of equipment, materials and components would be an asset

 

Additional Information

  • Experience in testing transmission and distribution equipment highly desirable
  • Experience in field dielectric testing is highly desirable
  • This role could involve work in the lab (20%) and in the field (80%) testing high voltage electrical equipment
  • Could involve frequent travel across various locations in BC during summer for up to two weeks at a time as required
  • Experience in NDT and mechanical testing is an asset
  • Must be able to work in confined space
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work at heights > 10 feet
  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the role
