This regular full-time (35 hours per week) position is available starting August 22, 2022. Regular hours of work are scheduled Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:00 am - 8:30 pm. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department's need. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required. The position is located at the New Westminster campus; however, the successful candidate must be available for occasional work at the Coquitlam campus. To provide instructional support to students, faculty and staff related to Computing Science courses and programs. Provide exceptional client-centred service on a consistent basis to all stakeholder groups.Responsibilities1. Provides lab instruction and demonstration related to College computing science courses.
a. provides ongoing instructional support to students on an individual basis, or in groups, including explanation of concepts, answering questions, demonstrating how to solve problems and troubleshooting;
b. supervises students in the CMPT labs, ensuring compliance with safety procedures;
c. develops and implements strategies to facilitate student learning;
d. demonstrates the correct use of computer equipment and peripherals;
e. manages access to CMPT equipment and ensures the equipment is properly maintained and in good working order;
f. maintains a working knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of CMPT equipment;
g. oversees and manages the daily operations of the CMPT labs;
h. with assistance from CEIT , installs and configures new software and hardware on CMPT classroom computers;
i. maintains an accurate and current inventory of instructional equipment/supplies for CMPT .2. Evaluates student work and performance in relation to lab requirements.
a. provides support to instructors through supervising, observing and assisting students or user groups in the CMPT labs;
b. provides additional assistance to students, outside of regularly scheduled laboratory times, in relation to course work;
c. assists in lab or project marking and evaluation of students under the direct supervision of faculty.3. Prepares materials for use in the lab, subject to the curricula approval of the Computing Science faculty.

b. researches new technology for in-class instruction and implements strategies to facilitate student learning under direction of Computing Science faculty;
c. consults and collaborates with faculty in the development of supplementary instructional materials and activities.4. Performs other related duties such as:
a. gathers specifications for future equipment purchases, including the preparation of requisitions with the CMPT Chair and Purchasing assistance;
b. performs routine clerical duties as required, including photocopying, mail-outs, post notices, and maintenance of bulletin boards;
c. advises students on CMPT courses and pre-requisites;
d. occasionally conducts class evaluations of faculty;
e. sets up computer equipment and demonstrations and ensures equipment is in good working order;
f. maintains currency with respect to computing science and computing science laboratory instruction;
g. assists with CMPT -related events, orientations, career fairs and demonstrations;
h. hires and supervises student assistants under the direction of the Associate Dean.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
•Good working knowledge of the English Language (written and verbal).
•Bachelor's Degree in Computing Science from a recognized post-secondary educational institution combined with a minimum of four months of directly related experience as a laboratory/teaching assistant or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
•Demonstrated technical knowledge of computer equipment, including Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems, together with experience and/or training in a variety of programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, Java), as well as with microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino) and VR equipment.
•Good working knowledge of course content; operation and routine maintenance of computing equipment and peripherals; modern techniques including statistical analysis pertaining to the instruction of Computing Science courses.
•Proven ability to communicate courteously and effectively, in writing and verbally with students, faculty, staff and administrators as well as maintain good working relationships with other employees.
•Ability to maintain current knowledge in the field of Computing Science.
•Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimum direct supervision, as well as establish priorities and achieve deadlines.
•Proven ability to effectively demonstrate programming techniques and technical problem solving and troubleshooting skills to individual students and groups.
•Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
