Laboratory Assistant 2/ Laboratory Support

The Laboratory Assistant II/Laboratory Support performs duties such as venipunctures, collecting urine samples for analysis by the Technologist, preparing and staining slides, and preparing and batching specimens.

What you'll do
  • Perform venipunctures and micro blood collection on adults, children, and babies.
  • Check specimen identification against requisition to prepare for blood and urine analysis and look up patient information utilizing the laboratory computer information system
  • Separate serum/plasma from cells by centrifugation.
  • Batch specimens in order of established priorities for distribution to various areas or laboratories for testing.
  • Collect urine samples from outpatients as outlined on the requisition.
  • Prepare various staining solutions, chemical cleaning, and disinfectant solutions as required. Change staining solutions, stains, mounts and labels slides.


What you bring
  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Successful completion of a recognized Lab Assistant training program.
  • One (1) year's recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

You have the ability to:
  • Keyboard at 25 w.p.m.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    Deal with others effectively.
  • Physically carry out the duties of the position.
  • Organize work.
  • Operate related equipment.


Skills & Knowledge
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Site Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
