This full-time (35 hours per week) position will work out of our Coquitlam office and support clients across the Tri-Cities and Ridge Meadows area. Travel is required.

The Role
The Job Developer/Employment Specialist (JD) primary focus is liaising with employers and professional associations to obtain targeted employment opportunities for Career Paths program participants seeking professional employment that is commensurate or aligns to their pre-landing experience and education. The JD will support the Career Coach to prepare participants for effective job search using tools and resources that support job maintenance. The JD also contributes to the program team by assisting with Participant recruitment & screening and liaising with community organizations.


The Job Developer/Employment Specialist will:

    •Maintain and build positive Employer relationships in sectors and/or occupational areas that align with career goals of program participants; •Coordinate and schedule Employer Partner activities in the program, such as guest speakers on hiring practices, labour market information, practice interviewers and job hiring events that align to participants' occupational goals; •Assist participants to access:

o Job Shadowing opportunities that align to pre-landing experience, skills & education

o Informational Interviews with professionals in various fields

o Mentorship with professionals in client's goal occupation.
    •Assist Participants with job search strategies and to prepare for scheduled interviews; •Support Participants on employer leads and job opportunities relevant to their action plan; •Identify and negotiate work experience opportunities for participants; •Assist participants and employers to resolve issues that may arise during work experience; •Assist with program marketing and participant recruitment; •Assist with participant needs assessments to determine eligibility for program and job readiness; •Participate in local business and industry meetings (i.e. Chamber of Commerce); •Attend and promote the program through special events; •Maintain records of participant progress and provide updates through monthly reports and regular team meetings; •Participate in regular program team meetings to review client outcomes against performance targets, contribute strategies to ensure program targets are met, participate in strategic planning and program review sessions as scheduled; •Provide coverage for team members including workshop facilitation; •Foster positive, productive working relationships and work collaboratively to contribute to a positive work environment based on mutual respect; •Participate in Training Group's Quality Management System (ISO9001:2015); •Participate in Training Group's Job Developer cross-program team.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
    •Bachelor's degree preferably in marketing, sales or related area or combination of suitable work experience and education; preference given to Certified Career Development Practitioners. •Minimum 2 - 3 years' experience in employment services supporting skilled immigrant clients who are seeking work aligned to their pre-landing skills is preferred; •Strong awareness of the needs of immigrant professional job seekers in both regulated and unregulated occupations; •Commitment to ongoing learning in the areas of diversity and inclusion and multicultural communication; •Knowledge of current local and regional economic conditions and labour market information options for job seekers; •Demonstrated ability to meet targeted outcomes; •Strong organizational and time management skills; •Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills; •Established broad based employer, industry and professional association network an asset; •Advanced proficiency in internet research, Microsoft Office, and social media; •Proven ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team with capacity to take initiative and calmly handle changing circumstances; •Travel within the Lower Mainland is required: access to a vehicle and valid BC Driver's license or reliable alternative transportation; •Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check.
