Position Summary IT SECURITY SPECIALIST Job ID: 2289Burnaby, BC
Reporting to the Senior Manager - IT Security, the IT Security Specialist is responsible for operational IT Security. This includes administrative and technical operation of solutions to maintain the overall security posture, active cybersecurity response, and enforcing policies through the implementation and use of technologies to ensure the organization's systems and data are secure. The Specialist delivers communications and training initiatives to increase employee cybersecurity awareness and adoption of safe computing practices and procedures. This hands-on position participates as a key member of the security incident response team, conducts investigations and audits, monitors and analyses cybersecurity events , and recommends improvements to reduce, contain and mitigate risks.
You bring to the role:
Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, and/or Information Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution.
4 years working experience in information technology, with a minimum 3 years' experience in the information security field for a complex, multi-dimensional organization.
Experience in applying risk management and information security principles, frameworks, and standards (including COBIT, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Industry Standards Organization 27002), for assessing and implementing information security from a governance, technology, and process perspective.
Professional designation or accreditation in IT Security governance and audit, preferably Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) .
SANS Technology Institute (GCIH/GPEN/Related GIAC) preferred.
Good knowledge and understanding of security architecture including perimeter and WAF firewalls, application security, intrusion detection/prevention systems, DLP, malware, data encryption, and other industry-standard techniques and practices.
Good technical knowledge and understanding of system and RFC standards, scripting using python or pearl, LINUX, Windows, TCP/IP, Oracle Database & Middleware, BEA Weblogic, MS Exchange, Active Directory, Cisco IOS, Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ERP and JAVA/J2EE development.
Good knowledge of TCP/IP and ability to use protocol analyzers.
Good knowledge of security testing tools used for penetration testing and forensic investigations.
Good knowledge and experience with technologies which enhance security and privacy (such as identity management, network security, and application security).
Ability to conduct investigations and compliance audits, and develop, recommend and implement measures to maximize security and mitigate risks.
Ability to create and update technical and user manual documentation and provide training to staff, contractors and other third parties.
Ability to work effectively within a team made up of business users and technical analysts.
Ability to generate and articulate new ideas and adapt effectively to new technologies.
Highly self-motivated and directed, and ability to work effectively with minimal direction.
Ability to excel in working under pressure to meet deadlines and changing priorities.
Strong analytical, problem solving, decision-making, organizational and time management skills.
Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Ability to exercise good judgment in dealing with matters of a confidential nature.
