The Ministry of Agriculture and Food is responsible for the production, marketing, processing and merchandising of agriculture and seafood products, as well as supporting our province's food security, and developing a resilient food system and economy.

The Plant and Animal Health Branch provides veterinary, plant and pest diagnostic laboratory, entomology, and disease investigation services for the Province. The Branch also supports the mandate of federal agencies such as the Canadian and Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The Branch is comprised of the Animal Health Centre (AHC), the Plant Health Laboratory (PHL) and the Business Unit.

In this critical position, you will provide systems maintenance, enhance existing ones and resolve system problems. Liaises with technical staff and clients to provide technology planning, business analysis, systems design and client support services. Provides technical, project management expertise for multiple, concurrent, medium sized projects from initiation to completion including training. Also delivers Tier 2 technical support by receiving and diagnosing the lab systems and requests to resolve complex data and application problems.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • Degree, diploma, certification in the computer science field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in the computer science field
  • Experience providing business analysis related to integrated custom applications with complex business processes
  • Experience leading project teams (i.e., through system development/changes)

Preference may be given to candidates with:
  • Experience with Oracle relational database systems, PL/SQL, java, sh, html and xml.
  • Experience in the application of general laboratory and administration policies and processes, laboratory reporting and systems, and laboratory financial systems and controls.
