Role Overview

Minimum Qualifications:Must currently be enrolled in a recognized and accredited Canadian post-secondary institution throughout the duration of the co-op term. You must be returning to a post-secondary institution after the co-op term is completed. If you are not currently located in the area of this co-op position, you must be willing to either commute or relocate to the surrounding area for the entire duration of the co-op term. All students will be required to complete pre-employment drug testing prior to commencing work. Proof of a valid work permit will be required, if applicable.

For this exciting position, we are specifically targeting students who have a background in Occupational Hygiene, Occupational and Environmental Health, Occupational Health, or Industrial Hygiene. Under the supervision of the Industrial Hygienist (ROH) the co-op student will have the opportunity to learn and apply techniques related to occupational hygiene and carry out assignments using their knowledge of chemical and physical agents, instrumentation and sampling material

Key Responsibilities

  • Participation in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyonegoeshome safe and healthy every day
  • Perform workplace monitoring for a variety of chemical and physical hazards
  • Upon completion of fieldwork, analyze results, write reports and present recommendations to area and plant organizations.
  • Build and evaluate innovative ideas and technologies to help improve the way we do business
  • Complete a specific industrial hygiene survey project. Previous projects have included assessments of electro magnetic fields, heavy metals additive effects, silica exposure, paint shop isocyanates and VOCs, machine shop metalworking fluid, surface wipe sampling for metals, laser engraving assessment, and modern sampling techniques such as direct reading dust monitoring andsynchronizedvideo capture

Qualifications

  • Working towards an Undergraduate/Graduate degree or diploma in Occupational Hygiene, Occupational and Environmental Health, Occupational Health, or Industrial Hygiene
  • Driver's license and an access to vehicle throughout the co-op term
  • Must currently be enrolled in a recognized and accredited Canadian post-secondary institution throughout the duration of the co-op term. You must also be returning to a post-secondary institution after the co-op term is completed
  • A sound and practical knowledge of the principles of industrial hygiene and sampling procedures.
  • Motivated self-starters with excellent interpersonal skills; able to work under minimal direction and be able to handle several projects simultaneously
  • Experience working effectively with union and management personnel.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate complex ideas to all levels
  • Excellent digital literacy with the ability to track and analyze data as well as handle project timelines
  • Solid understanding of MS Word and Excel is necessary
  • Experience working in heavy industry or mining considered an asset

Pay Range: CAD $4,200 - 5,392 per month

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
