HR Manager (12+ month contract)

Position Description:

Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Plant Director, the HR Manager oversees the Human Resources function for the local manufacturing site.


Job Duties

  • Ensure compliance to regulatory requirements for all personnel decisions, policies, procedures, and reporting
  • Provide coaching and support to leadership on HR related matters
  • Provide support and guidance for employee relations issues
  • Advise on and/or conduct investigations, make recommendations, and prepare reports
  • Support the disciplinary process (provide guidance, prepare paperwork, and support managers during disciplinary meetings)
  • Provide support and guidance for labour relations issues
  • Maintain working relationship with the union, participate in negotiations,participate and/or consult on grievances and arbitration, interpret theCollective Agreement
  • Liaise with retained employment lawyer on issues requiring legal advice
  • Participate and provide support for any major employment resolution processes, including tribunals, arbitration, mediation, and other related legal matters
  • Oversee recruitment (review final candidates, second/third level interviews, advise on selection/contract negotiations)Ensure compensation strategies remain competitive in relation to the general labour market
  • Review pay structures, analyze market reports, participate in and review market surveys, make recommendations for changes, review annual benefits benchmarking
  • Work with the Management team to review, develop, implement, and enforce local and/or corporate policies and procedures
  • Drive initiatives, activities, and programs to retain and engage employees 
  • Develop and execute internal communication plans 
  • Manage the overall strategic process for company HR initiatives, ensuring targets are met and project plans are executed on time 
  • Support, develop, and implement change management strategies 
  • Support, develop, and implement workforce performance management, training,and development programs
  • Participate in OHS committee (mgmt. rep)
  • Develop and manage the overall HR budget, in conjunction with finance and senior management
  • Manage annual salary and budget reviews in collaboration with Financial Controller
  • Review and submit monthly HR KPIs and take action as necessary
  • Plan and execute annual corporate events and other staff functions
  • Manage ad-hoc HR projects
  • Payroll and admin backup

Profile Know How and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Human Resources, Business, or other related field
  • Designation as a CPHR, or a candidate working towards
  • At least 5-7 years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting
  • Previous experience managing labour relations in a unionized environment
  • Previous experience with change management initiatives
  • Experience with payroll and other HRIS systems (i.e. ADP, SAP, Payworks) is preferred
  • Good knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and regulations
  • Has excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Has excellent organization skills, with the ability to multi-task
  • Has good computer skills (MS Office, HRIS, etc.)
  • Has strong analytical abilities, able to evaluate information
  • Able to take initiative and manage time effectively to meet deadlines

Successful completion of a Canadian Criminal Record Check, as well as a security assessment under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program, may be required per company policy.
