In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Provincial Health Services Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at PHSA. As such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The Housekeeping Supervisor performs a variety of supervisory and housekeeping and cleaning duties, including the supervision of more than 16 designated housekeeping staff, coordinating and evaluating work assignments, according to departmental policies and standards and safe practices and procedures, such as Workers' Compensation Board regulations and standards. The Housekeeping Supervisor determines related orientation and training requirements, prepares budget estimates and monitors budget for the designated areas, and orders housekeeping and cleaning supplies and equipment.

What you'll do
  • Supervises designated staff by performing duties such as scheduling and coordinating work assignments, determining related training and orientation requirements, and providing input to employee performance evaluations in accordance with established policies and procedures. Maintains related records and reports.
  • Performs and/or directs the performance of a variety of housekeeping and cleaning duties, such as cleaning and disinfecting walls, windows and ceilings; sweeping, spot washing, dry/wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, waxing, buffing and polishing areas such as floors, lobbies, entrances, walkways and stairways; vacuuming carpets; discharge cleaning; and collection of garbage and recyclable materials and clean and soiled laundry.
  • Prepares budget estimates and monitors budget for the designated areas. Provides recommendations and information to the Manager with regard to budget and equipment needs for housekeeping for the designated areas.
  • Addresses work-related issues and reports unresolved issues or concerns to the Manager. Advises the Manager regarding ongoing deficiencies in systems, programs, services and resources for the designated area.
  • Assigns designated keys, radios, and beepers to assigned staff. Maintains accurate records of such assignments and ensure security of keys.
  • Arranges for maintenance and repair of housekeeping machinery and equipment. Seeks information regarding capital equipment and machinery and supply sources for Manager as required.
  • Monitors housekeeping inventory levels for the designated areas. Orders housekeeping and cleaning supplies and equipment. Completes supplies requisitions and maintains related reports and records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Acts as a liaison with other departments such as participating in departmental and team meetings and committees as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

What you bring

Qualifications
  • Grade 12, plus three years' recent related experience including six months' supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
  • Ability to supervise.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
