Sunshine Coast Hospice Volunteers provide caring and compassionate support to individuals who are either nearing end of life or experiencing grief through the death of a loved one. Volunteers provide support and active listening meeting with clients in their homes, community, hospital, Hospice rooms (Shorncliffe), residential care centres, and at Hospice House. Deliverables/Duties:
Hospice volunteers will provide one to one support to clients at end of life or clients who are grieving the death of a loved one. Some Hospice volunteers take further training to become Grief Group Facilitators.
Hospice volunteers are expected to make a committment of at least two hours per week depending on current needs.
Hospice volunteers attend ongoing training, in-service and events sponsored by Sunshine Coast Hospice.
Hospice volunteers will be expected to provide their own transportation to visit with clients, attend orientation and training and Hospice events. Qualifications:
Prospective Hospice volunteers should have a desire to support bereaved clients and clients who are dying. Prospective volunteers should be able to demonstrate an ability to be present, communicate with diverse individuals, and provide caring and compassionate support. Hospice volunteers come from various backgrounds, personal experiences and across various ages.
All prospecitive applicants must complete an application and interview process, provide references, have a clear criminal record check and complete the Hospice Volunteer orientation.
Through 30+ hours of volunteer orientation through Sunshine Coast Hospice volunteers have an increased awareness of, senstivity to and understanding of issues related to death, dying and bereavement, increased understanding of the theory behind hospice work, and develop practical skills for providng support to the dying and their families. There is a fee of $100 to attend the volunteer orientation. If this fee would result in a candidate unable to attend the orientation there are buraries available. Volunteer skills:
