About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant. 

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. 

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a full-time Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our Mount Milligan Mine operations site.

This role operates on a rotation of 7 days on / 7 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule. 

The role of the Heavy Duty Mechanic is to ensure the effective operation of various mine equipment by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing components when required, primarily through the preventative maintenance program, but also acting when necessary to keep all gears running smoothly and effectively. 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining and repairing mine equipment as requested by Mine Operations and Maintenance supervision from the most complex to the simplest tasks
  • Utilizing computer programs to check reported trouble and ordering parts
  • Maximizing equipment availability by utilizing efficient and proactive preventative maintenance programs
  • Performing preventative maintenance such as inspections, lubricating, oil changes, and failure analysis
  • Diagnosing faults and malfunctions, and carrying out necessary repairs including major component replacement and repair or rebuild
  • Complying with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Testing repaired equipment for proper performance
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment
  • Collaborating with Mine and Mill Operations, ensuring the mine site works as a well-oiled, harmonious unit
About You

To qualify, you will need a high school diploma or GED, 3+ years of related experience, and a BC or Interprovincial Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic certification.

The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:

  • Experience working on surface mining equipment or related heavy industrial equipment
  • Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently
  • Excellent safety record
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to work in adverse conditions
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse environment is an asset
