About the Opportunity

The District of Peachland is looking for a full-time Heavy Duty Equipment Technician / Commercial Transport Mechanic (Red Seal) based in Peachland, BC.

Reporting to the Roads Lead Hand and Operations Superintendent, you will play a key role in maintaining and repairing the District’s municipal fleet to ensure vehicles and equipment operate safely and reliably.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for performing diagnostics, preventative maintenance, repairs, and fabrication work on a range of municipal vehicles and equipment used across public works and fire services operations.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Diagnosing, servicing, repairing, and replacing mechanical components on municipal vehicles and equipment
  • Performing preventative maintenance inspections and scheduled service programs
  • Conducting welding, fabrication, and minor autobody repair work as required
  • Maintaining accurate service records and organizing mechanical parts, supplies, and inventory
  • Supporting maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles including dump trucks, light-duty vehicles, and equipment
  • Assisting with the upkeep of fire department apparatus and specialized equipment
  • Ordering parts and coordinating mechanical supplies to support ongoing fleet operations
  • Performing physically demanding work in a variety of weather and working conditions

About You

To qualify, you will be a Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or Commercial Transport Mechanic with a Motor Vehicle Branch Inspection Licence. You will also bring 3+ years of experience performing diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, or similar mechanical systems.

The following are required:

  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work and work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:

  • Experience servicing and maintaining municipal or commercial fleet vehicles and equipment
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs and mechanical diagnostics
  • Experience with welding, fabrication, and minor autobody repairs
  • Familiarity with commercial vehicle inspections and safety standards
  • Experience supporting fire department apparatus or specialized emergency vehicles
  • Ability to source parts, manage service records, and maintain mechanical inventory
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Experience working with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and heavy-duty equipment
