DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform routine maintenance
Electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and diagnostics
Engine and transmission repairs
Perform incidental welding operations and other mechanical repair work as required
Perform inspections and test mechanical units
Diagnose faults and malfunctions * Adjust, repair and/or replace parts and components of transport truck systems
Complete reports to record problems and document work performed
Provide training and advice to apprentices and co-workers as required
Ability to use power and hand tools related to motor vehicle service and repair
Maintain a safe work environment within the department and on each job
Identify areas for improvement, ways to better expedite and gain efficiencies
Consistently punctual and available for a minimum of 40 hours of work per week
EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATIONS
Truck-Trailer Repairer Trade Certification or Truck and Transport Mechanic Trade Certification or equivalent
3-5 years experience (inclusive of apprenticeship)
Class 1 or 3 driver’s license preferred
BC Commercial Vehicle Inspector certification an asset
Ability to understand and carry out instructions via written, verbal, or diagram form
Strong mathematical skills
Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Professional demeanour and superior customer service skills
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION
Regularly required to stand; walk; sit
Ability to use hands to operate equipment, handle and/or feel;
Ability to reach with hands and arms
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 – 50 lbs
Ability to occasionally lift and/or move > 50lbs with assistance
Ability to kneel, bend, squat, push, pull, and reach above and below waist
Ability to fluently read, write and speak in the English language
