We are an established, growing Heavy Industrial General Contractor with operations throughout Canada. We self-perform our work as a Building Trades employer.

We are currently seeking to hire a Senior Project Manager; in this position you will work in a “hands-on approach” reporting directly to the President and Vice-President and be responsible for leading projects from inception through to completion. 

You will be expected to work collaboratively with Estimators, Project Coordinators, Schedulers, Superintendents, Client Stakeholders and Trade Contractors to ensure quality work and successful project execution in all respects, while maintaining exceptional customer satisfaction. 

As an integral member of our management team, you will help to plan, organize, manage and direct the activities of various construction projects.

    MAIN FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Guide and assist Estimators, Project Coordinators, Schedulers and Superintendents in the day-to-day duties of project administration 

  • Attend and/or lead various meetings with appropriate stakeholders, from project start-up meetings through to client/consultant meetings, subcontractor meetings and review with President/Vice-President on project status 

  • Manage client relationships throughout projects, representing to all parties involved with the end goal of strengthening all working relationships 

  • Working closely under the guidance and direction of the President and Vice-President to learn companies systems and methods 

  • Assist with preparation and execution of overall detailed work plans and schedules 

  • Manage a variety of project details, including: contract documents, estimates, tenders, schedules, subcontracts, equipment/material and supply quotations, purchase orders, shop drawings, change orders, etc… 

  • Secure appropriate subcontracts, contract bonding, project insurance and other relevant particulars 

  • Assist in plan and specification analysis in order to provide clear trackable and coordinated interpretations of the design/drawings for construction 

  • Research and recommend solutions to design document problems, including conflicts, interferences and errors/omissions 

  • Provide value-added input in pre-construction phases 

  • Preparing and managing detailed project budgets and schedules, update job costs, cost projections and budget revisions throughout projects 

  • Act as liaison with subcontractors and suppliers in expediting drawings and related information 

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date logs (RFI, Vendor/Subcontractor, Purchase Orders, Owner, etc…), track responses and advise the President/Vice-President of the status of RFIs 

  • Maintain and update Construction and Shop Drawing Logs, review Shop Drawings and submittals 

  • Prepare Requests for Quotation (RFQ’s), obtain quotations and assist with detailed bid analysis and award recommendations 

  • Coordinate submittals and procure all close-out documents including warranties and Operating and Maintenance Manuals in support of project close-out 

  • Assist with the research and preparation of field change requests to resolve design issues 

  • Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work as required 

  • Complete quantity take-offs and estimating 

  • Understand and perform document control functions in accordance with companies policy and procedures, including tracking and creating RFIs, transmitting and tracking of submittals, compose agreements and maintain project expediting list 

  • Attend project coordination and Owner/Contractor/Engineer meetings as requested, or required 

  • Prepare and distribute accurate and detailed meeting minutes in a timely manner 

  • Coordinate periodic job related photographs for records 

  • Provide expertise to site team to avoid/resolve potential problems 

  • Attend and contribute to site and project technical meetings as necessary 

  • Monitor field work, including contract work, to ensure compliance with company standards, procedures, specifications and codes 

  • Participate in the continuous updating and accurate generation of project as-built documents 

  • Provide Supervisory responsibilities at the discretion of the President/Vice-President 

  • Provide other technical support as required 

  • Maintain project awareness in order to keep Project Manager/s and others informed about status and potential project issues 

  • May perform other related duties as assigned 

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • 12-15 year’s minimum recent, related work experience as a Project Manager in Industrial Construction 

  • Must have major underground services installations experience (pipelines) 

  • Major projects Design/Build experience 

  • Completion of post-secondary education with a related Construction diploma, degree or trade certificates 

  • Knowledgeable in reading various disciplines of construction drawings, such as: P&ID's, Single Line Diagrams, Orthographic and Isometric drawings, Civil and Structural drawings, etc. 

  • Ability to read and interpret contract specifications and other construction documents 

  • A working knowledge of various industrial construction techniques and practices 

  • Experience with large, multi-discipline Industrial Construction projects 

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Project Management processes including: Tendering, Scheduling, RFI’s, RFQ’s, CO’s, Close-Out, etc. 

  • Demonstrate success in completion of Industrial Construction projects ($10-$30 million project value) 

  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills and be able to effectively prioritize work load, multi-task, organize and work both independently and as a Team player to achieve goals in a high-pressure environment 

  • Must be adept at problem solving and dedicated to achieving goals 

  • Must work well under pressure and must always meet deadlines as project demands increase 

  • Must be proficient in common PC software, including experience with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, Power Point, etc...) 

  • Strong communication skills, confident interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are a requirement 

  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license with a clean Driver’s Abstract 

  • Must be able to travel and work out of town for short duration assignments, as required 

  • Read, write and speak fluent English 

 

This is a fulltime position
