Horizon Recruitment Inc. is currently seeking a Global Category Manager, Direct for one of our Lower Mainland clients.

The Global Category Manager, Direct is responsible for the management of spend across the direct commodities. The primary responsibilities will be sourcing new products and suppliers, negotiating supplier agreements, managing on-going cost reductions and quality improvements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute the sourcing strategy and reduce total cost of acquisition for direct commodities
  • Conduct supplier analysis, evaluate potential suppliers, and manage the overall supplier qualification process
  • Develop and create global sourcing plans, requests for proposal, and other sourcing documents
  • Continually lead productivity, quality & delivery improvement initiatives to reduce total cost of ownership through negotiation, consolidation, vendor development, and concurrent engineering
  • Negotiate and implement sustainable supply agreements supporting the business, financial & legal requirements
  • Develop and implement a sourcing strategy for managed commodities including competitive landscape, technology direction, supplier analysis, development and selection, and pricing strategy
  • Represent sourcing on new product core teams ensuring rapid prototyping, design for manufacturing input, and optimum vendor selection
  • Work on project and/or assignments as required, using approved guidelines


  • Extensive knowledge of commodities, such as metals, plastics and cable assemblies.
  • Mechanical Engineering degree required
  • Minimum of 10 years of in depth supply chain experience with proven abilities in: Sourcing, Negotiation, Contracts, Project Management
  • Ability to independently assess, define and solve complex supply chain and procurement issues
  • Experience in supplier and market analysis
  • Cross-functional team experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools & ERP Systems
