Job Description

Foreperson, For Paving Shop Equipment:  Harvey 2649   

We are currently looking for a Foreperson, For Paving Shop Equipment, and the individual in this role is expected to understand and adhere to internal procedures, company rules, customer requirements, and all applicable safety, and environmental protection standards. 

This position must comply with the requirements of our Companie's Integrated Management System, including ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment), and ISO 45001 (Health & Safety).

You will be the first contact in case of equipment emergencies and to ensure all the fleet and his crew can work efficiently.  

Key Tasks and Responsibilities: 

Site Safety Standards 

  • Have a strong knowledge of our Company Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Ensure that safety procedures in accordance with the company’s Safety Policies are being followed
  • Always maintain a high level of safety and liability awareness
  • Lead Daily Work Plan meetings
  • Perform and record Weekly Tailgate meetings
  • In addition to the monthly inspection, perform regular shop inspections and share their findings with all team members
  • Enforce Company Safety Manual and policies, WorkSafe BC and WHMIS regulations always
  • Ensure constant use of Personal Protective Equipment and have required supplies ‘on hand’ prior to need
  • Ensure Lockout Procedures are followed
  • Ensure the shop stays clean and in a safe and organized manner at all time 

Leadership and Supervision: 

  • Have strong management skills with the ability to coach and lead a team
  • Skilled at building relationships and influencing co-workers, customers, and contractors at all levels of the company
  • Ensure a clear line of communication with all team members
  • Display excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills to effectively communicate
  • Ensure that the company’s best interest is always kept in mind when making decisions
  • Have a strong ability to deal with ambiguity, find creative resolutions, and drive for results
  • Effectively analyzing situations and/or listening and responding objectively to new ideas, listening to questions and concerns, and communicating with the appropriate person(s) 
  • Provide guidance, instruction, training, and leadership skills to inspire the team to perform at their optimum
  • Mentor and guide their team to become effective high performers and provide positive and effective leadership that supports all company goals and objectives 

Operations: 

  • Ensure that all team members have sufficient tools and are prepared for the day’s work
  • Ensure that all team members have had proper training and have been given enough job information to complete tasks in a timely cost-efficient manner
  • Ensure that all team members conduct themselves in a professional, courteous manner always.
  • This includes cleaning up all debris and garbage from the work site before leaving
  • Ensure that all trucks and equipment are kept clean, safe, and presentable
  • Ensure all timesheets are completed correctly and handed in daily
  • Review and validate all in/out equipment inspections
  • Ensure that all completed work is of the highest quality possible
  • Ensure all required inspections are completed in a timely manner
  • Establish winter maintenance equipment priority and schedule accordingly
  • Receive breakdown or repair request from the field and coordinate HET or subcontractor’s interventions
  • Communicate with the relevant people on sudden unavailability and follow up
  • Prepare and optimize weekly and daily work schedule for Technicians
  • Keep track of repairs in progress and report to appropriate people regarding equipment availability
  • Prepare on-call schedule and afternoon shift schedule as required
  • Have a strong ability to work from electrical diagrams and sketches
  • Operates a wide variety of vehicles and equipment
  • Optimize repair and maintenance cost while maintaining high quality of work
  • Identify and minimize/eliminate deficiencies

 

Qualifications (Education, Training, or Experience): Essential Qualifications  
  • Heavy Duty Equipment Technician diploma
  • Minimum 5 years experience as Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician
  • Class 3 w /air drivers’ license
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Strong communication skills with multiple different stakeholders
  • A desire to learn and teach; a passion to excel and to strive to get the most out of employees
  • WHMIS
  • Occupational First aid Level 1 
Desirable Qualifications: 
  • Red Seal certification
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Occupational First aid Level 2 

 

This is a fulltime position

Salary of $52.00 per hour, plus overtime when required

Benefits package is available after 3 months
