Job Summary
The Team
The Financial Team of the Investigations Unit is a dedicated group committed to minimizing tax fraud and protecting the tax revenues essential for public services in British Columbia. This small but cohesive team, although relatively new, works closely with Analysts and other investigators to ensure a significant impact on safeguarding BC's tax revenues and deterring tax evaders. This team is highly valued for patience, tenacity, and creative problem-solving skills while safeguarding community resources.
The Role
The Tax Fraud Investigator's responsibilities include planning, leading, and conducting investigations into non-compliance and tax fraud involving individuals and businesses under various statutes administered by the Ministry of Finance. The work has a crucial impact by optimizing BC tax revenues and deterring tax evaders, contributing directly to the financial well-being of the province. This opportunity offers the chance to hold tax evaders accountable and recover vital funds for public services, making a meaningful difference for the people of British Columbia Columbia.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Post-secondary education plus a professional accounting designation CPA - CA, CGA, CMA, issued by a Canadian Accounting Association plus one year of *related experience.
o Note: If your designation was obtained from outside of Canada, you will need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through an applicable Canadian Accounting Association.
*Related experience includes:
o Conducting audit and/or investigation or other enforcement activities for non-compliance to statutes.
o Conducting research and preparing documentation to support audits and/or investigations.
- Valid BC Class 5 driver's licence with no more than 9 points in the last five-year period; or, an equivalent class driver's licence from another province or jurisdiction.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Education in a related discipline such as administrative law, investigation and enforcement, criminology, etc.
- Experience providing mentoring and guidance to team members.
- Experience supporting economic crime, tax fraud or compliance and regulatory oversight.
- Experience investigating economic crime, tax fraud and/or conducting forensic investigations.
- Experience in putting together, production orders, search warrants and Report to Crown Counsel.
- Candidates who hold, or have previously held, status as a Peace Officer, Provincial Constable or Special Provincial Constable.
- More years of related experience.
Proviso/Willingness:
- Possesses sufficient coordination, strength, and dexterity to lift and carry boxes filled with paper documents and products where weights can exceed 50 lbs.
- Office and field work. Position put at risk when conducting investigations against criminal activities.
- Satisfactory background and security screening to qualify as a Special Provincial Constable.
