The LDB is one of two branches of government responsible for the cannabis and liquor industry of B.C. We operate the wholesale distribution of beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis within the province, as well as the household retail brands of BC Liquor Stores and BC Cannabis Stores.

Finance is separated into five work groups (Finance Corporate, Finance Wholesale, Finance Retail, Regulatory, and Shared Services) and provides financial services to all LDB departments. The Finance division provides financial reporting, advisory services, budgeting, capital asset reporting, and financial transactional processing (banking, accounts payable, accounts receivable). Finance is responsible for the LDB's enterprise risk management program and oversees regulatory compliance for BC liquor manufacturers/warehouses.

About this role:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Project Accounting, the Senior Lease Accountant administers the overall LDB lease accounting process, applies the proper accounting treatment for new lease arrangements, and support the month end financial close process.This role will also be a point of contact with our internal stakeholders, such as the real estate team, financial planning & corporate accounting. In addition, this role will interface with the LDB's external auditors on lease accounting related topics.

The primary responsibility of the Senior Lease Accountant is to ensure lease accounting is compliance with accounting standards (International Financial Reporting Standards) by reviewing applicable financial data on a lease contract, calculating the lease liability and interest components and maintaining/updating lease accounting schedules. This responsibility includes re-evaluating lease calculations and assumptions when there are new leases or if there are extensions or terminations of existing contracts. In assessing changes/modifications to leases, the sound judgement needs to be exercised to determine the appropriate accounting treatment. The Senior Lease Accountant ensures that the general ledger accurately reflects leasing information and is reconciled to the lease accounting schedules.

Position requirements:

Education and Experience:
  • Canadian professional accounting designation (CPA) and a membership in good standing.

Note: If your designation was obtained from outside of Canada, you will need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through an applicable Canadian Accounting Association.

Preferred qualifications include:
  • Experience in lease accounting.
  • Experience with Oracle.
