The External Communications Manager leads, develops and implements Coast Capital Savings' media relations strategy to enhance Coast Capital Savings' public profile, brand and reputation. The External Communications Manager does this by initiating positive media coverage and public discussion of corporate initiatives and priorities; promoting Coast Capital's leadership in social purpose and as a next generation credit union.
This role reports into our Senior Manager, Public Relations and works closely with stakeholders across the business. This role manages public issues and publicity opportunities that can have a significant impact on Coast Capital's public brand and reputation, both positive and negative, affecting all employees, members and stakeholders. What you'll get to do: Develop and implement a media relations strategy to enhance Coast Capital's public brand, profile and media coverage, including development of strategic objectives and corporate metrics. Provide expertise on communications, issues management and media relations. Serves as an influential advisor and strategist for sensitive and/or complex communication assignments and is Coast Capital's media spokesperson when required. Build a network of relationships with the executive, management, internal subject matter experts, third-party product suppliers and other contacts in the communications, issues management and media relations industries. Forge business opportunities and maintain working partnerships with media outlets and news personalities to leverage positive media coverage. Work closely with our Public Relations agency of record and team of contractors to drive earned media coverage and opportunities for Coast Capital. Develop and maintain Coast Capital's media policy and procedures. Develop training programs and provides coaching and support to the Board, CEO, executive and key program spokespeople in media relations, including, but not limited to responding to reporters and providing on-the-record comments. Develop and execute long-term and annual communication plans. Advise Executive and management on strategic communication approaches, needs, priorities, methods and resources required to enhance communication responsiveness and effectiveness. Develop strategies and activities to generate favourable news coverage and dissemination of information to enhance Coast Capital Savings' reputation in the community and industry. Develops and manages customized media relation approaches to garner earned media, maximize media opportunities and create positive news coverage. Manage the efforts of the communications team in the development and implementation of communications, issues management and media relations strategies and activities to support Coast Capital's lines of business and back-office functions. Ensure the communications are consistent with the company's brand, vision, mission and objectives. Manage and works with third-party suppliers to ensure communication activities are on brand and meet corporate and customer expectations Lead for Toast to Coast, providing creative vision and direction to cross-organizational team in the production of the event. Who are we looking for? Bachelor's Degree or a diploma requiring 3 - 4 years of full-time study in Communications or Public Relations Minimum 7 - 9 years of job related experience in Communications with a strong understanding of government and media. Superior communication, writing and presentation skills Sound knowledge of the financial services industry Strong computer skills - Microsoft Office A savvy member of a large, complex organization - skilled in working in a matrix environment, collaborative in building relationships, and smart in knowing how to prioritize competing interests and requests. A self-starter who takes initiative to creatively identify and execute public affairs opportunities, responds quickly to issues, and recommends effective messages.
