  • Summary:
    The Equipment Sales Consultant will be responsible for selling heavy duty equipment while achieving and maintaining appropriate levels of gross profit, volume, and customer satisfaction. Further responsibilities include evaluating equipment proposed for purchase, repossession, or trade-in and recommends purchase price and terms to General Manager. The Equipment Sales Consultant also ensures that acquired equipment is prepared for front line readiness, effectively and efficiently.

    Responsibilities:

    Sales Process:
    • Approaches, greets, and offers assistance or direction to any customer who enters the dealership showroom or sales lot.
    • Understands the terminology of the heavy equipment business and keeps abreast of changes in product technology, incoming inventory, features, accessories, etc.
    • Provides thorough product information and demonstration to all prospects.
    • Assists customers in selecting equipment by asking questions and listening carefully to their responses. Suggests alternative choices, if necessary.
    • Offers demonstrations to all qualified prospects. Follows dealership procedure to qualify potential clients prior to offer of demonstration.
    • Exhibits a high level of commitment to customer satisfaction.
    • Knows and understands equity and values, and is able to explain depreciation to the customer.
    • Writes complete sales orders and processes paperwork in accordance with established dealership policies.
    • Prepares sold units for customer delivery prior to customer arrival.

    Delivery and Customer Relations:
    • Delivers equipment to customers using walk-around presentation techniques, ensuring that the customer understands the operating features, warranty and paperwork.
    • Follows up on all post-delivery items and special requests to be sure that all customer expectations are met.
    • Introduces customers to service and parts department personnel to emphasize the quality and efficiency of service repairs and maintenance available in the dealership's service department.
    • Schedules first service appointment.
    • Maintains an owner follow-up system that encourages repeat and referral business and contributes to customer satisfaction.
    • Maintains a prospect development and follow-up system.

    Equipment Purchase and Reconditioning:
    • Analyzes equipment presented for purchase, trade-in, and repossession. Determines values based on blue book guide, market conditions, current auction results, and current inventory movement.
    • Monitors customer inventories, auctions, websites, and wholesalers for purchase opportunities.
    • Helps with the inspection process. • Works with the service department and body shop to ensure that the equipment is properly reconditioned on schedule.
    • Knows and understands the federal, provincial and local laws which govern heavy equipment sales.

    Planning and Productivity:
    • Establishes personal income goals that are consistent with dealership standards of productivity, and devises a strategy to meet those goals
    • Reviews and analyzes actions at the end of each day, week, month, and year to determine how to better utilize time and plans more effectively.
    • Helps to keep equipment sales department, including inventory, neat, clean and presentable.
    • Becomes familiar with and complies with the company's Health & Safety Manual
  • Requirements:
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) essential
    • Post-secondary education in sales and marketing preferred
    • Heavy equipment sales experience preferred
    • Three years related experience and/or training
    • Excellent sales skills, preferably in a related field
    • Familiarity with advertising mediums, terms, success rates, etc.;
    • Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
    • Must be able to lift up to 25 kg and carry short distances
    • Must be able to climb into and out of heavy equipment
    • Must be able to operate a keyboard and other common office equipment
    • Must be available to customers outside of normal business hours in order to be successful (overtime is not paid in this position as per BC Employment Standards).
    • Ability to negotiate is essential
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills
    • Some travel will be required to review potential purchases, attend training courses or meetings, evaluate existing inventory, or meet with current and potential customers.
    • Use of personal vehicle is required
