Our Regional Head Office in Surrey, BC is currently searching for an Engineering Department Assistant to join our team. As a member of the Engineering team, this individual will be responsible for performing administrative tasks, as well as coordinating and monitoring a variety of activities and reports such as maintaining equipment layouts and process flow diagrams using AutoCAD and Visio. You will support the engineering department to track certain aspects of projects, and will work to improve and maintain the document database for the department. This position reports to the Director, Special Projects and Process Improvement.

What will you do?

  • Provide support in areas of commissioning and operation of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment and systems and performance test protocols;
  • Revise, formulate and communicate technical operating procedures, project proposals and manuals and reports to applicable parties;
  • Assist with the inspection of materials, specifications, quantities and performing composition audits;
  • Review and cross reference drawings; assist in producing as-built drawings and design of projects of various sizes for operations;
  • Perform feasibility and capability studies, collect results for existing and proposed equipment, systems or processes;
  • Develop and track projects and their progress using Microsoft Project;
  • Monitor ground improvements, installations and testing (Gantt chart management + departmental scheduling):
    • Includes calendar updates
    • Book and track travel costs for 3rd party contractors, etc.;
  • Coordinate and meet with project teams to discuss requirements and constraint issues;
  • Conduct task reviews to ensure alignment with technical drawings and specifications;
  • Prepare preliminary reports and update daily activities for management review;
  • Support in maintaining technical templates for RFP’s;
  • Create and update equipment layouts and process flow diagrams utilizing AutoCAD and Visio;
  • Maintain and organize records/databases and drawings/projects:
    • Technical drawing conversion to electronic format including documents for regulatory requirements (eg. Environmental reports etc.);
  • Coordinate with internal and external staff to help organize and implement various project aspects;
  • Project transport coordination;
  • Perform various tasks required for ongoing projects:
    • Order equipment/materials;
    • Organize shipment of equipment/materials;
    • Manage cost breakdown of projects;
  • Perform other duties as assigned;
  • May be required to travel between sites as work requires.

What will you bring?

  • Working towards or has a diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Internship or previous working experience in a project management or technical role will be considered an asset;
  • Good knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of mechanical engineering;
  • Strong project management and organizational skills;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings;
  • Working knowledge of mechanical tools and equipment;
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and Outlook;
  • Knowledge of 2D modeling in AutoCAD;
  • Knowledge in SCADA an asset;
  • Very organized and detailed individual;
  • Self-starter who can manage and prioritize their own workload with some guidance;
  • Not afraid to get their hands dirty as work may at times require going around the equipment in the facilities;
  • Need to own a vehicle.

 Working Environment:

  • Office environment with regular travel to project locations across Canada.
