Position Summary
Are you looking to highlight your knowledge, skills, and abilities in a new and dynamic environment? We currently have an exciting opportunity for you to bring your excellent work ethic to our Capital Planning & Support Services department.

In accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, the Energy Specialist supports the energy and sustainability management of the organization at the corporate and facility level. The Specialist is responsible for supporting energy conservation initiatives across Northern Health (NH), including the effective identification, promotion, implementation, evaluation of energy conservation programs, and the development of a long-term energy management plan.

The Energy Specialist collects and performs analysis on utility data for energy use performance tracking, greenhouse gas emission reporting, and to support management decisions. The Specialist also monitors Direct Digital Controls systems for scheduling and maximum efficiency. The position also explores, and helps develop and promote business cases around sustainability and energy conservation related projects.

Key partnerships include Facility Maintenance Managers, site Maintenance Supervisors, Engineers, and Project Managers as well as representatives from external agencies and organizations such as NRCan, BC Hydro, FortisBC, and other external contractors. The Specialist helps engage staff by education and promotion within the organization regarding energy-focused project plans and works closely with facilities staff to ensure that they receive any available incentives where eligibility is met.

Starting salary will be approximately from $67,861 to $84,826 and will be based on education, training, experience, and salaries of similar positions.

Qualfications
• A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Building, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Business Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management.
• Three (3) to five (5) years' recent, related experience in energy management in a large complex organization.
• Preferred candidates must possess at least one of the following:
• BCIT SEMAC (Sustainable Energy Management Associate Certificate)
• UBC Masters in Clean Energy: Completion of the Energy Efficiency Module
• Yorkville University Energy Management Specialization
• Douglas College Building Energy and Resource Management program certificate
• Proof of passing the Certified Energy Manager exam under the Canadian Institute for Energy Training
• Master's degree in Sustainability and Planning

Skills and Abilities:
• Proven initiative, judgment, decision making and problem solving capabilities.
• Proven ability to develop and maintain rapport, facilitate, and gain consensus with stakeholders.
• Ability to provide technical expertise, process management to support projects.
• Ability to identify issues and analyzes alternatives to provide decision support, influence decision-making and to support interdisciplinary teams.
• Ability to work effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines balance work priorities and resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Ability to lead, work independently and manage components of large engagements.
• Ability to operate relevant software applications (Microsoft Office and Energy Management Information Systems).
• Comprehensive knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems including broad knowledge of Building Automation Systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with energy efficient technology related to lighting systems, HVAC systems, cooling plant equipment, heating plant equipment and control systems.
• Familiarity and knowledge of energy efficient technologies.
• Demonstrated knowledge of project management principles and methodologies and experience with capital and energy projects.
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience in project management, contract management, budget development, business case development, financial controls and analysis.
• Thorough understanding of available resources for projects and applicable stakeholder groups.
• Exceptional ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to ensure information is communicated appropriately.
• Ability to work collaboratively within key NH departments and with other Health Authorities.
• Class 5 BC Driver's license and the ability to travel in Northern BC.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
