Electrical Technologist, Regular ,Full -Time, Burnaby, BC

Ballard has an opening for an Electrical Technologist to join the Systems Engineering Team. The successful candidate will work well with existing engineering staff, is capable of independent work, and will contribute to the development of Ballard's fuel cell system products.

  • Support the design, packaging and verification of electrical systems
  • Prototyping and re-work of wire harnesses
  • Prototyping and re-work of circuit boards
  • Select and source electrical components (wires; connectors; sensors)
  • Electronic Circuit design
  • Circuit Board Layout
  • Verify designs through analysis and testing
  • Troubleshooting/resolution of existing electrical components and systems
  • Assist in preparation of technical documents, including test procedures, test reports, design specifications, and component/system design requirements
  • Prepare and/or review technical documents

  • Must have a technical diploma or engineering degree from an Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics program
  • Must have at least 4 years' experience in an electrical technology field
  • Experience designing, drawing, analyzing low voltage analog & digital circuits
  • Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and their characteristics, applications and limitations
  • Ability Solder through-hole and surface-mount components
  • Ability to crimp automotive style connectors
  • Troubleshooting skills with DMM and oscilloscope
  • Electrical prototyping skills required including: bread-boarding, soldering Basic skills with mechanical tools such as drills, grinders, wrenches
  • Demonstrated capability for critical thinking
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and good listening skills
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment

Additional Consideration:
  • Experience and interest in PCB design and Altium software
  • Knowledge of fuel cell technology
  • Experience in automotive or mobile equipment design
  • Experience with EPlan, AutoCAD or similar drafting software
  • Experience with instrumentation including pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices
  • Experience with microcontroller programming
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and/or National Electrical Code or European IEC standards
