RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, implement, and/or provide oversight of assigned EHSS programs to ensure regulatory and internal compliance.
  • Monitor and manage EHSS KPIs (i.e. injuries, contractor’s visits/hours, first-aid, near miss-incidents, etc.) and report to key stakeholders.
  • Ensure appropriate preventive and corrective actions are taken to mitigate EHSS risks.
  • Support EHSS event and change management. Evaluate EHSS program compliance data and events, follow up on action items and provide guidance for investigations as needed.
  • Engage staff and customers to meet safety requirements and create opportunities for streamlined compliance approaches.
  • Provide oversight of Contractor safety pre-qualifications, Safe Work Permits and site orientations.
  • Ensure compliance to Responsible Care “RC” and participation in local RC activities. Participate in regional meetings and share best practices.
  • Execute regular facility inspections and identify any gaps for safety operation with focus on continuous improvement.
  • Point of contact for Corporate and regional groups for EHSS practices and policies.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with the Joint Health and Safety Committee at VAN.
  • Liase with Federal, Provincial, and Municipal regulatory bodies as required on compliance issues and emergency response.
  • Provide oversight and support in the coordinating of waste streams.
  • Maintain documentation and records for all aspects of the EHSS responsibilities at VAN (event tracking and safety related training).
  • Provide oversight and monitor site security to ensure compliance with global standards including emergency response procedures.
  • Coordinate annual medical assessments for employees for fit for duty and respiratory fitness. Work with medical provider to evaluate trends to improve workplace health and wellness.
REQUIREMENTS
  • A diploma in Occupational Health, and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related and with 0-5 years’ experience in an EHSS capacity.
  • Industrial experience in EHSS function in laboratory research and manufacturing environment is an asset.
  • Familiarity with federal and provincial policies and regulations regarding handling of hazardous waste streams.
  • Demonstrates professional maturity and ability to act as a change leader, while bringing others along
  • Displays strong problem solving, organizational and analytical skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills including public speaking skills and presence in meetings and training environments
  • Thorough knowledge of WHIMS
